Beselam is a 14 year old girl who lived in the countryside of Ethiopia where the average age for girls to marry is 9-14 years old. Beselam wrote to me and said,
” In my village most of my friends are forced to marry at 8 and 9 year. It has its own impact on their academic mastery as most drop out of school and do not continue their education. My mother and father are affected by the culture, therefore they want to give for husbands, but I do not want to marriage.”
Because of a donation from the Community Foundation, Besalem is now in Addis and tested two grades higher than expected. She began 8th grade at Macmillan Academy and is scoring at the top of her class. To quote our house manager in Addis- She is so smart, so bright, so happy and she can cook too!
We have funding for this year, but need funding for 4 more years of high school.
Currently her expenses are
